Why did you choose to practice pediatrics?
I love pediatric nursing because we often form strong relational ties with the patients and their families.
What is most rewarding about your work?
Children are very resilient even when they are ill. They can laugh, play games, and act silly even during tough times.
How does being a parent help in the way you provide care and work with your patients and their families?
Having a sick child is difficult for parents, even myself. I well understand the feeling of things being out of your control. However, being able to treat kids and educate parents on the illness helps parents understand that the team also wants the best outcome for the patient.
When working with your patients and their families, what is your approach?
As a provider, I listen to the full history and do a thorough exam before making a diagnosis and then allow the family to be a part of the team when deciding on the best choice for treatment. I allow all questions to be asked and answered in an effort for families to feel comfortable when leaving the office.
How do you stay healthy and happy?
I spend my free time with my husband and two kids, ages 11 and 5. They are both in activities that keep me busy, including volleyball, cheer, tumbling, and wrestling. Our family loves to take trips and also enjoy community events.
